Every legend has a beginning. Now discover the beginning of the Castlevania Legend in Castlevania Legends for Game Boy. In this single-player adventure, you play as Sonia Belmont, the very first in the line of vampire hunting Belmonts. Use your whip to fend off the forces of darkness, as you work your way through six stages of non-linear gameplay. Explore the legendary areas of Castlevania, including the surrounding forest and the infamous clock tower. Don't forget to collect hearts from the torches that litter the stages to gain extra lives. Adjustable difficulty settings allow you to choose the skill level at which you want to play. At the end of it all, Count Dracula himself awaits. Can you defeat him and put the evil to rest for another 100 years?

Additional Information

The Belmont legacy of vampire hunters begins with Castlevania Legends, a prequel starring the first of the fearless family members to challenge Dracula, Sonia Belmont. To help her confront the Prince of Darkness, you must guide Sonia through five decrepit areas in the Transylvanian castle, each filled with flying, crawling, and slithering monsters. Sonia can crack and snap the famed Belmont whip to subdue her enemies, or acquire more powerful attacks in the form of "soul weapons" by defeating bosses.

Each soul weapon consumes a varying number of hearts, which are replenished by whipping candles throughout Dracula's castle. Five soul weapons are available in total, including wind, ice, flame, "saint," and magic. Players can also attempt to locate a hidden cross, vial of holy water, dagger, axe, and pocket watch somewhere within the fortress to influence the ending. Unlimited continues are available, and progress can be resumed via passwords provided at the end of each stage.
