PS2 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Box Art Front

PES 2008 features a brand new intelligence system, called Teamvision, that adapts and reacts to players own gameplay styles to ensure that the computer controlled opponents are always challenging and forcing the player to think and chance their style of play to avoid being out-thought by the game. It learns counter attacks that target your weaknesses and look to exploit any repetitive tactics players use. Defenders react better to danger, closing down the ball and charging at shots and the goalkeepers hold shots that are closer to them as well. Teammates make more intelligent runs into space and the close control has been sharpened to ensure quick and fluid passing and speedy attacks can be built. The next gen versions also feature extensive edit modes so players can completely customise their PES 2008 experience.

Additional Information

Konami's critically acclaimed soccer series continues on the PlayStation 2 platform with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. The development team's primary focus was improving the artificial intelligence found in the previous installment, so it created a "Teamvision" system for more dynamic opponents that adapt to a player's strategies or tendencies. Defenses, for example, will alter formations based on your attacking patterns, goalkeepers will do a better job at holding the ball close, and teammates will more aggressively get open on offense. Animations have been refined in an attempt to make passing, dribbling, and shooting more responsive, while greater detail has been added to the 3D player models. The PlayStation 2 version includes 24 stadiums, commentary from John Champion and Mark Lawrenson, and over 3,000 professional athletes.

The single-player Master League mode includes 20 teams, weekly reports, highlights on the main menu screen, and other embellishments. Player negotiations are influenced by a club's popularity rating, adding a layer of depth to the transfer system. Two exclusive modes are available for PlayStation 2: World Tour and Community. The former involves challenging teams from across the globe and completing more than 50 missions, while the latter supports custom tournaments and stat tracking for up to 16 players on the same system. Teams and players can be edited as in previous games, with the new option of importing faces captured by a USB camera. Brazil, Portugal, Greece, Scotland, and Ireland join the list of officially licensed National teams, increasing the total number of playable clubs to more than 250. Online support is also included for both ranked and friendly matches.
