The universe represented in Valis is composed of three primary worlds: the Human World, the Dream World of Valia, and the Dark World of King Rogles. Led by King Rogles and his five dark lords, the Dark World is threatening to pound all the other worlds into submission. Their first act of darkness was to steal the force of Yang from Queen Valia. Only Yuko Ahso, a girl with a heart perfectly balanced with Ying and Yang, can wield the sword of Valis and confront the enemy head on. You, constant gamer, must take on the roll of young Yuko and make the universe safe once again.
Unfortunately, heedless of your stern warning, your very best friend in the Human World, Reiko Kirishima, went on a date with King Rogles. And she did so just because she thought he was cute! After a fun evening of dinner and the movies (or whatever it is dark lords do on dates), Rogles used his dark powers to turn your friend into a powerful soldier of Darkness. Alas, your mission just got tougher and more complicated.
As you run, jump, slide, and crouch through this game's six levels of play, prehistoric birds, skulls, strange demons, and other minions of the dark lords will attack. You can hack and slash with your sword and pick up sword power-up items to give you the ability to fire bullets, lasers, arrows, cutters, and grenades. At the end of each level, you must face a boss character, such as Gyeda, the Lord of Earth or Izard, the Lord of Wind. Each time you defeat a boss, you will gain its magic power. Spells include earthquake, ice feather, flame ring, tornado, giga thunder, and death flash.
To help you defeat the darkness, item boxes are scattered throughout the game. You can break these open to retrieve magic points, health points, and extra lives. Japanimation-style storyboards play out the storyline between levels.
At the end of the game, you must battle Reiko Kirishima, your best friend and most powerful combatant.Controls: Gamepad/Joystick | | Released | Jan 01, 1991 | Developer | Riot
