Based on Return of the Jedi, the third film in the original Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Super Return of the Jedi lets you control five different characters: Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Wicket the Ewok. At the beginning of each mission, you must select one of the available freedom fighters. Each of the Rebel heroes has his or her own skills, weapons and abilities. For example, Luke brandishes a lightsaber and Leia has a blaster pistol. While disguised as bounty hunter Boushh, Leia wields a staff weapon.
Like the Super NES cartridge before it, the game basically follows the storyline of the feature film. The missions include rescuing Han from Jabba the Hutt, knocking out the shield generator, battling Darth Vader and destroying the second Death Star. Most of the action is of the 2D platform variety. You run, climb, jump and super-jump through each level, warding off Jawas, guards, Imperial Stormtroopers, attack droids and other minions of the Galactic Empire with your weapon of choice. Various pick-ups, such as thermal detonators, extra lives and weapon power-ups, will help you along the way.
In addition to the standard platform action, this game lets you pilot a speeder bike from a view behind your character and the Millennium Falcon from a top-down perspective. While both ships are equipped with lasers, the objective is slightly different for each stage. On the speeder bike, you must sideswipe Imperial Scout Troopers as you make your way through the forests of Endor. In the Millennium Falcon, your goal is to destroy the weakened Death Star by blasting its power core while being pursued by TIE fighters.
Like Space Invaders and Donkey Kong, Star Wars: Super Return of the Jedi was created specifically with Nintendo's Super Game Boy in mind. The Super Game Boy is a peripheral that allows you to play Game Boy titles on your Super Nintendo.Controls: Gamepad/Joystick
