Set 100 years after the events chronicled in Capcom's 8-bit Mega Man games, Mega Man X marks the debut of the sci-fi shooting series on Super NES. The Blade Runner-style storyline finds a sentient Mega Man hunting down "Mavericks," robots gone rogue. Yet the core gameplay is virtually unchanged from earlier titles, with themed stages serving as home bases for colorful and quirky boss characters. Defeating each Maverick allows Mega Man X to acquire its distinctive weapon, from a boomerang blade to a whirling tornado, which can be used to improve his chances on subsequent stages. In addition to blasting foes left and right, X can climb walls and perform a high-speed dash. Collect various part upgrades and health boosts in your quest to defeat all eight Mavericks and their powerful leader, Sigma.

Dr. Wiley.
The action involves MEGA MAN,
armed only with laser beam weap-
ons, encountering strangely-config-
ured Humanoids. They're atop, in
and out of fortified prison-like struc-
tures strengthened with thick walls.
Below icefields. Hidden amid gun
turrets imbedded in concrete up-
rights, even in subterranean pas-
sages under icefields. WOW!
