Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion picks up where Turok 2: Seeds of Evil left off when gamers were first introduced to "Oblivion" and its lackeys, 'Flesh Eaters. Oblivion is a monstrous cosmic entity that consumed everything in its path. It reigned before the birth of our universe. Invading the bodies of the living and devouring them from the inside-out, Oblivion fed on the very energy of the dead and dying. When the Primagen's Lightship was destroyed, the chain reaction it triggered as a result was so powerful that the universe as it existed was completely eradicated, and the almighty Oblivion was pushed to the very brink of destruction. For the first time, Oblivion felt pain, fear, and hate. Though totally ravaged, Oblivion survived and now desperately seeks a means to punch through the Netherscape that separates our world from the Lost Lands (a strange and primitive world where "time has no meaning"), and the Lost Lands from countless others. The last shreds of the pure energy source that created our world and nearly wiped out Oblivion are contained within the Light Burden, the bag that every member of the Turok lineage has carried. The death of the Turok mantle will signal the beginning of the end: the rebirth of Oblivion.

In the game, the world rests on the shoulders of the two newcomers. As a result, the setup of the quest is structured differently from previous versions. Now the missions must be completed with both characters in Turok 3, and finishing the game with one character will affect the quest of the other. In addition, the two characters will have access to different weapons and abilities. Also of note is that roughly 20% of each level is only accessible by a single character. Both characters must be used in order to fully complete the game.
With Turok 3, the developers have focused on improving various aspects of gameplay. As a result, the save function is undergoing a big renovation. In the previous incarnation, the game relied on a save point system, meaning players had to find a specific locale to record the data. With this game, the player will now be able to save the game at anytime. Turok 3 also boasts an improved multi-player scenario by offering over 40 different battle arenas. The game will also include 24 weapons, in-game speech, and 20 single-player levels.
Turok 3 supports the Expansion Pak for high-resolution graphics, the Rumble Pak for vibration feedback, and the Controller Pak to save progress. The multiplayer aspect allows up to four people to compete at the same time.
